A Waste Management Plan is now required by most Councils as part of their Development Application process for residential, industrial, commercial, retail and civil projects.

The purpose of a Waste Management Plan is to ensure that waste minimisation and resource recovery is undertaken during the construction and demolition phases.

The Waste Management Plan identifies how the development handles and minimizes waste through submission of the following information:
  • The type and amount of waste/recyclable material to be generated by the development site;
  • Waste generation estimate
  • Proposed waste management practices
  • Demolition
  • Excavation
  • Construction
  • Contracts and purchasing
  • Training and education
  • Record keeping
  • Materials storage
  • Liquid waste
  • Material streams
  • Operational management
  • Waste storage facilities
  • Access for collection
